A Planning Pivot ◦ Changing My Life in One Year ◦ Week Twenty-Seven

Hello from Week Thirty! We have a bit of catching up to do. I received an email that my blog had been removed due to malware? I was (obviously) able to get it reinstated, but it caused me to fall a bit behind on posting.

In my last post, I talk about how I use my planner as a diary to keep track of the points from my week that I want to talk about on here. I've decided to pivot that to the designated use and use it for planning things, making a weekly to-do list to start dictating the things I want to do each week instead of doing what I want to do and letting the moments of betterment come naturally.

Where Did This Change Come From?

During the first half of the challenge, I didn't want to set a million goals and overwhelm myself or become discouraged. So, I eased myself into new things: job, living arrangement, schedule, etc., and I took the first six months to become accustomed to these new life roots without pushing things too heavy. Now that the dust has settled, I am setting myself weekly and monthly goals. Nothing big, no numbers. nothing set in stone. Just things I would like to do this week that will make me feel accomplished if they are done.

This list is a spectrum: selling books, picking up prescriptions, updating my address on my ID, weighing in, paying tolls, and so on. It's helping me use my planner as a brain dump to be more productive and that's the change I need right now. Goals is a tricky word because it can be so intimidating and discouraging if they're not reached. I like the idea of a list of small things that I need to get done each week, writing them down as I think about them, and highlighting them as I do them.

I've been making these lists in a lot of areas of my life. In my last post, I talk a little bit about The Book of Layne document I created on Google Sheets. I'm using that to track my TBR, my gym visits, my daily step count, and my scrapbook catch-up. It's become a database for me to update periodically to make sure I am working toward goals in a way that helps me and makes sense to me mentally. I get a dopamine kick when I check things off of my list and that's incentive enough to get things done. <3
