Susan Lucci, book club invite, and making time ◦ Changing My Life in One Year ◦ Week Four

Welcome to the fourth week of making sense of bullet points in my planner and turning them into a coherent post you to read about changing my life in one year! I'm happy you're here.

Let's check in on last week's habit: Read one book each week for the duration of 2026. My book of the week is Sky Daddy by Kate Folk. I'll have a full review up sometime next week, but it did not match my expectations. In a good or bad way? You'll have to wait and read about it!

Work:

As a whole, I had a great work week. We had two events: one author signing with Susan Lucci and a Valentine's Day party.

I met a couple of people who used to work at a different location of the same bookstore chain that I worked at, so we talked about the people we both knew and they invited me to join their weird book book club, which of course I agreed to. (You hear that? I made some work friends!)

I also talked more with the girls in my quad because we went to the V-Day event together and it made the work week seem shorter and more bearable. Coming from remote work to a hybrid schedule has been a lot of fun, though the girls in my quad believe full remote would be better (grass is green yadayada,) but I really enjoy the social aspect of being in the office (so far.)

Meal of the Week: I took a lazy week and had Lean Cuisine four cheese pizzas for each of my work meals this week, which hit every day.

Snack Box of the Week: Hard boiled eggs, celery, peanut butter, and cucumber. This was made from eating through anything I had left in my fridge from previous snack boxes.

Life

Wednesday, I had myself an at home self-care night. I oiled my hair, took an everything shower, deep conditioned it, did a face mask, and did my nails.

I've also been consistently working out. I started to pack a bag for the gym so I can go right after work and get my workout finished before I settle in at home for the night. We're approaching "fake spring" in Chicago, which has given me a few days of going for outdoor walks.

I have been treating my body better in this past month than I have in the past few years and I think that's because I have a routine outside of the house now that I have a hybrid work schedule. When I worked remote, there were days I felt like I was melting into my couch and days I wouldn't even step outside. In this past month, I'm outside almost every day, active, social, and taking every baby step I can reach to improve my quality of life almost every day.

Song of the day playlist has been updated with:

  • Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush

One gripe with everything lately is that I haven't had the time to write. I keep playing out book scenarios in my head and contemplating moving things around in my book, but I never take the extra time to sit with my personal laptop and act on it. I spend a lot of my day staring at my computer screen, so it's the last thing I want to do when I get home at night, but it's ultimately what I want to do so I need to make the time.
